Using the right hand, grip the top part of your golf club. Hang your left hand from the shoulder and try holding the club in a natural way. Once the grip feels natural, align the hands slightly towards your body.

The next step one should take is hang the position of the hand a bit forward and grip the club. Grasp the club in a way that will allow the rod to stretch alongside your hand obliquely downwards precisely from your palms. Your diagonal alignments should be preferably around 6mm from the base of the little to the centre of your middle finger.

  • Another tip offered in the self taught golf club gripping lessons is to gradually grip the club’s shaft with all the fingers in your hand. The grip should neither be too tight nor too loose. The firmness of the grip should be similar to that you use to grip a toothpaste tube and not be a tight squeeze

Many golfers though tend to lengthen the thumb’s position a little down wards and this tends to oppose the perfect results.  Extending the finger downwards produces an improper support to the club’s grip and you end up making poor back swings.

Placing the small finger in your right hand between the formed spaces by the second and the first fingers of the left hand ensures the grip is flexible. For a proper hit, ensure that the palm on the right act as a mirror to the angle of the golf club’s face.

    To regrip golf clubs, you’ll need the following materials:

    1. The new grips you’ll be using.

    2. A tee.

    3. A bench vise (not essential, but it will make things easier).

    4. A rubber shaft holder to cradle the shaft, protecting it from damage, while the shaft is clamped in the vise.

    5. Double-sided grip tape.

    6. Scissors.

    7. A grip tape scraper.

    8. A utility knife with a hooked, rather than a pointed, blade. A pointed blade can damage graphite shafts.

    9. Grip solvent placed into a squeeze bottle.

    10. A container to catch the solvent, which you’ll be pouring over the shaft.

    11. A cloth or old rag.
