If you have been playing golf for a long time, then you have probably perfected a certain style of gripping the golf club. It is generally better to stick to the style you have chosen unless you are having some problems while swinging the golf club and would like to try some other grip. This article deals with the different styles of gripping the golf club which will be useful for such people and for beginners.
Golf grips are primarily of three types. The Overlapping grip, the Interlocking grip and the Ten finger grip. Remember that the lead hand for right handed golfers is the left hand.
Overlapping Grip: The most common grip and often adopted by famous golf players is the overlapping Grip. This style is also taught to beginners by the golf instructors. In this style, the little finger of your right hand will be placed above and between the index and middle finger of the lead hand.
Interlocking Grip: This grip is also very commonly used and is adopted by Master champions and PGA Tour members. This grip is a favorite among women golf players and people with small hands. In this grip the little finger of your right hand will interlock with the index finger of the lead hand.
Ten Finger Grip: This is the grip least preferred by players since it does not provide a perfect grasp of the club according to professional golfers. However this grip has also been used by great players and teachers use this grip for initial training of beginners. In this grip the little finger of the right hand is kept close to your index finger of the lead hand.
In all three grips the thumb of the lead hand should rest on the life line of the right hand.
